Kidney: The excretory organ of the body

Kidney Cancer: Is a type of cancer that starts in the cells in the kidney.  The two most common types of kidney cancer are renal cell carcinoma(RCC) and urothelial cell carcinoma(UCC) of the renal pelvis. These names reflect the type of cell from which the cancer developed.

Treatments:  Treatment for kidney cancer depends on the type and stage of the disease. Usually treatment doesn't involve chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as the kidney cancers often do not respond to these treatments. If the cancer has not spread, it will usually be removed by surgery. Sometimes this involves removing the whole kidney, which is called nephrestomy. But surgery is not always possible - for example the patient may have other medical conditions that prevent it, or the cancer may have spread around the body and doctors may not be able to remove it. Other treatment options include biological therapies (drug treatments that use natural substances from the body)

Kidney Stones: Also known as a renal calculus, is a solid concentration or crystal aggregation formed in the kidneys from dietary minerals in the urine.

Treatments: Most stones under 5 mm pass spontaneously. Treatment options for larger stones include ESWL (Extra Corporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) and Ureteroscopy.

KUB: An X-ray that includes the Kidney, Ureter and Bladder
